Assemblywoman Suzette Martinez Valladares (Santa Clarita) issued the following statement today on AB 1400, the bill to end private insurance in California. The bill is expected to be taken up on the Assembly Floor later today.
“I wholeheartedly believe that every individual deserves access to affordable, quality health care.
“Most Californians access their care through their employer-funded healthcare plans, Medi-Cal, Medicare, or Covered California, giving them choices not only in plans, but in doctors. AB 1400 abolishes these plans to create a single, government-run healthcare system – effectively eliminating patient choice. That’s why I support a more inclusive approach that meets everyone’s needs.
“There are families with young children with disabilities who spent years searching for the right doctor and AB 1400 would put that important care at risk. There are women and seniors with chronic health concerns who are comfortable with the care provided by their specialists and general practitioners, but AB 1400 would put an end to many of those doctor/patient relationships.
“Let’s get people the affordable healthcare and access all Californians deserve.”
